Hello all!
Well, it's Sunday night here, and it's been a long day! We had church this morning. It was so wonderful to hear all of the kids sing! They are so precious. Dave and Debbie both had a message, which were good. It was so good to be there and worship God with those kids. Christy had an opportunity to meet the boy that her family supports and had her picture taken with him. He is a very ncie young man, but very shy and didn't seem to understand English.
After church, we went to a Thai/Western little place for lunch. I ate sweet & sour chicken with rice---with french fries on the side. :) It was really good! Christy tried Pad Thai, which is practically the national dish for Thai people. She really liked it.
After lunch we headed back to the guest house and had a meeting about what we will be doing this week. Basically, we are teaching English at the Christian School in the mornings and helping with English homework at night. We are also helping the interns, Kaillie and Rosie, with a program they are implementing at the main orphanage. They are hoping to start a competition between the kids that will help them learn God's word, participate in athletic games, and keep the orphanage neat and clean. It will be structured like a "camp" where the kids are in teams and work on getting points for rewards. They are even going to start a Bible quizzing program! Gee, what would I know about that? :)
Anyway, in the afternoon we went to a few touristy places (pottery, umbrellas) and then to Carrefour, the big "Walmart" of Chiang Mai. We had to get a few things for the kickoff of the competition, which will begin Monday night. They didn't have exactly what we needed, but we did get some essentials--chips, a pineapple, and chocolate! :)
It finally rained today! It's been really hot (90s) and sweat is inevitable! Mike and Debbie took us to dinner, which was a small roadside restaurant that has the best shakes! I tried the pineapple and Christy had watermelon. I had the mixed veggies, chicken, and rice--it was pretty good! We all ate for 295 baht--less than 10 bucks! Now we are watching a movie and just hanging out. Tomorrow will be English lessons and trying to get everything ready for the big competition tomorrow night!
Write more soon!
